Clever and curious, these "smiling" mammals like to cavort in the bow waves of ships or large whales, making high jumps and smacking the water with their wide tail fins. They usually form schools with other dolphins and sometimes even accept sharks or turtles into their swimming classes.

The jawbone in the center is from the Bull Shark that was from 12-22 feet long. The darker teeth along the top are fossilized and are between 15-25 million years old! The white teeth are from recent "living" sharks."

Black Bear (Ursus americanus)
As you walk a trail or drive along Skyline Drive, you might meet a black bear, possibly a mother with her cub or cubs. A bear cub, when born in late winter, weighs only about 8 ounces. It is hard to believe that this cub will grow to 300 - 500lbs.

In large, tightly packed groups, these penguins take turns entering the warm center to shelter from the icy winds. In order to keep the chicks especially cozy, the eggs are kept inside the father's pouch. The mother lays only one egg each year, then returns for two months to the sea.

Translated as: (from German) We live in the city because we love it. No other place is so inspiring, so exciting, so diverse. Where others see chaos, we see beauty. Where others complain about noise, we listen to music. And where others feel restricted, we see plenty of space.

The first white man to see this singular fauna specimen was a trapper named George McLean in 1829. When he told of it later he was promptly denounced as a liar. An odd trait of the Jackalope is its ability to imitate the human voice. Cowboys singing to their herds at night have been startled to hear their lonesome melodies repeated faithfully from some nearbly hillside. The phantom echo comes from the throat of some Jackalope. They sing only on dark nights before a thunderstorm. Stories that they sometimes get together and sing in chorus is discounted by those who know them best.
