Founded in 1858 by James W. Denver, Denver is the largest city in Colorado, and is the state capitol. It was nicknamed the "mile high city" because the capitol building is set at exactly one mile above sea level. Since the early gold rush days, Denver has developed into a commercial, financial, political, and cultural center of the Rocky Mountain region.

From my grandmother: May

Though it is renowned for its modern technology, architecture, and its fine culture, the "mile high city" preserves the free spirit and adventure of its colorful past. In its early gold rush days, thousands were drawn to the area by the pursuit of the American dream. Today Denver maintains a feeling of freedom and independence.
