South of the Kanakee-Iroquois County Line, the original alignment of the Dixie Highway followed Main Street, now East Avenue, through Papaineau from 1915 to 1920. After concrete paving was completed in 1920s, downtown Papineau was bypassed. Papineau has a number of businessess catering to passing motorists including the William Wilfe Buffet and Jule Clement's Restaurant
