Camp Nelson Covered Bridge
Garrard-Jessamine Counties
Original art by Robert A. Powell
On the banks of the Kentucky River at Camp Nelson, 20 miles south of Lexington, this bridge carried the Lexington Danville Pike across the river in a single span of 240 feet. Buily in 1838, it was the largest wooden cantilever bridge in America when it was razed in 1993.
